Santorum Anti-Medicare Stand, GOP Disagrees With Americans on Medicare, Eric Cantor Interview

Santorum: End Traditional Medicare

"Last month, Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney both enthusiastically endorsed Sen. Ron Wyden’s (D-OR) and Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) Medicare premium support plan -- a wonky middle-ground between Ryan’s goal of complete Medicare privatization and the Democrats’ reliance on the growing market power of traditional Medicare to drive innovation in the health care system.  Under the proposal, seniors would receive a voucher to purchase insurance from an exchange of private plans or Medicare."

"During a town hall event in Iowa yesterday [Monday], surging GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum threw his support behind Wyden/Ryan plan, but bemoaned its key compromise -- the provision to preserve traditional Medicare."

And . . . Mr. Santorum ran a very close second in yesterday's Iowa caucus.  I hope voters become more aware of his and other contenders' position on Medicare.  Hopefully, NCPSSM's Mobile Billboard will help.

Republican Hopefuls Out of Touch on Medicare and Social Security

Sorry I missed this earlier item from NCPSSM.  It's still worth noting:  "With just days before the Iowa caucus, Republican presidential candidates continue to try to draw political distinctions among themselves to break away from the pack and challenge emerging front-runners."

"However, there is almost complete unity on one issue that puts these candidates at odds with the vast majority of Americans of all political persuasions -- support for proposals that would radically alter Social Security and Medicare to pay for Washington's fiscal failures.  Whether it's privatization proposals such as Social Security private accounts or Medicare vouchers, which would force seniors to pay a growing share of their health care costs, the Republican Party's front-runners for president seem uniformly out of touch with the average American's view on Social Security and Medicare."

The press release goes on to describe public support for Medicare and Social Security.
