NCPSSM At Work, Romneycare Flip/Flop/Flip, Big Medicare Savings

"Dear Mr. President . . .

"On behalf of the millions of members and supporters of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, I am urging you to protect Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security -- programs of extreme importance to today's seniors and future retirees -- as you develop your Fiscal Year 2013 budget.  I ask you to consider our concerns about proposals you and others have put forth with respect to these programs."

Romney Says RomneyCare Bad

"Mitt Romney has long maintained that he’d never impose his Massachusetts health care law on the nation, no matter how great he thinks it is, but now he’s warning states against enacting it themselves."  "While Romney has criticized aspects of his health care law, he’s fiercely defended its overall utility and refers to it as one of his proudest achievements.  He has also talked his plan up as a blueprint for other states in the past even as he’s maintained that it’s up to them to decide whether to follow his lead."

Medicare Saves More Than a Billion for Beneficiaries

"Over the past year and a half, Medicare has saved government health-care recipients an average of $569, the administration announced Tuesday, which collectively totals about $1.5 billion in savings on prescription-drug costs.  A surprising number, about 24 million people covered by Medicare, also took advantage of a free annual checkup that the law provided.  The savings resulted from the closing of the so-called doughnut hole."
